Working / Process
1. Zeroing the Gauge
- Place the dial gauge on a flat surface or a reference block (like a surface plate).
- Rotate the outer bezel until the zero mark on the dial aligns perfectly with the pointer, ensuring a baseline for measurement.
2. Contacting the Workpiece
- Gently lower the contact point onto the surface of the component being inspected.
- The spindle retracts or extends as it follows the contours of the surface, causing the needle to rotate around the dial.
3. Reading the Measurement
- Observe the main pointer for the fractional measurement (e.g., 0.01 mm per division) and note the revolutions on the smaller secondary dial (if present) to count the number of full millimeters.
- Calculate the total deviation by comparing the final position of the pointer to the initial zeroed position.
