Working / Process
1. Specimen Preparation
- The material is cut into a standard rectangular bar or coupon according to industrial standards (like ASTM or ISO).
- Surfaces are cleaned and edges may be rounded to prevent premature failure due to stress concentrations at sharp corners.
2. Loading and Positioning
- The specimen is placed across two support pins (rollers) that are set at a specific span distance.
- A plunger (mandrel) is positioned exactly in the center of the span, ensuring the force is applied perpendicular to the long axis of the material.
3. Controlled Deformation
- The plunger descends at a constant speed, pushing the material into the gap between the supports.
- The test continues until the material reaches the required bend angle or until visible cracks appear on the tension side (the outer curve).
