Working / Process

1. Zero Error Check

  • Clean the measuring faces with a soft cloth to ensure no dust interferes with the reading.
  • Bring the anvil and spindle together using the ratchet; if the zero mark on the thimble does not align with the datum line on the sleeve, a zero error must be recorded and corrected.

2. Positioning the Object

  • Place the object you intend to measure between the anvil and the spindle.
  • Rotate the thimble until the spindle is close to the object, then use the ratchet stop to finalize the contact with the object's surface.

3. Reading the Measurement

  • Observe the main scale reading on the sleeve (the value closest to the edge of the thimble).
  • Identify which line on the thimble circular scale aligns perfectly with the horizontal datum line on the sleeve; multiply this value by the instrument's least count and add it to the sleeve reading.
